I really wanted to love this place but 50CUC "disappeared" from our room during cleaning while we were having breakfast. That pretty much ruined the whole stay and I wouldn't have expected it from a 5* hotel even if it's in Cuba.

The water pressure was delightful especially after experiences less than memorable at stays earlier in the week in Guanabo and Boca Ciega. Every interaction with the staff was handled in a professional and cheerful manner.

The weather. Please arrange for sunny skies when I return. Just kidding of course.

Interesting building but needs renovation

The hotel is a historic place and it can also serve as a museum. The building alone is beautiful and the fact that the Cabaret Parisien is located in the hotel, as well as the fact that you can listen to Buena Vista Social Club there was what made our stay better. Bed sheets were clean with no unpleasant surprises.

The rooms are old and in need of some serious renovation. The bed was very uncomfortable, I could feel the mattress coils sticking out. The staff was rude and indifferent, with the only exception being a young girl who was a waitress at the terrace bar. Food at La Barraca was good, but the rest was way overrated. At breakfast, it would be nice if cups, plates and cutlery were actually clean!

Mí Cuba linda!

How welcoming the staff is! We miss everyone there! The buffet for breakfast and dinner was delicious and the bar outside has the best Cuban sandwhiches.

The movie cafeteria. We paid $17 cuc for 2 of the most tiniest omelettes and 2 shakes. Not happy about it at all. Never went back.

Would stay there again

Wifi works well and you can have it in your room! The hotel is nice and clean with nice gardens. Staff is helpful. Even though the location is not very central the good price compred to other 5* hotels makes up for that. Good value for money!

The restaurant food is good but the options are very limited. Location not very central. You need a taxi (10$) for the centre (old havana).

Great potential

Building itself has lots of history and is gorgeous. Foyer is amazing, very traditional. Lots of options for things to do in the hotel and easy to book tours ect from your agents in lobby

For the money paid it wasn't that great. Room was a bit drab, could have been updated. Mini bar kept me awake at night.

Had a problem with my room the first night. The hotel staff was very accommodating and moved me to a Much nicer room for my inconvenience

First room had a leak in bathroom. Completely soaked the carpet. Upgraded room wad fantastic. I oils definitely stay there again

Beautiful hotel, historic building, nicely located on the beachfront, nice terrace and pool! Memorable view.

Little bit decaying inside, clean though. Breakfast although plentiful, poorly tasting, saved by the good morning eggs, fruits and coffee. Concierge, cashier, actually a lot of employees of no help at all. The beautiful surroundings are haunted by the presence of a sad, socialist “je m’en fous

This is a great place to relax after a full day of touring Havana.

This iconic hotel is a genuine blend of price, and quality service and facilities. It is well-maintained, and the only drawback is that you need a taxi to reach Havana's prime tourist areas. We also enjoyed having drinks on the terrace overlooking the Malecon, the room was large, and everything works in the bathroom, particularly the rain forest shower.

You always needed a taxi to go downtown.

An indulgent slice of 20s Cuba with great cocktails but you pay for the privilege.

We loved the location, the rooms was large with a pool view, we had ample wardrobe space and the beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed the traditional decor and a slice of 20s Cuba. The breakfast was standard, nothing out of the ordinary but nice. We didn’t use the pool but it seemed that others did, again a standard set up. The outdoor bar was probably our favourite spot for coffee, cocktails and the resident Peacock! The concierge got us reservations at some amazing restaurants La Guarida and El Cocinero - highly recommended!

We had issues with our air conditioning that was fixed soon after we mentioned it, I cut my foot and they didn’t as much as have a plaster for me! It rained and the hotel doesn’t stock umbrellas which I was surprised at for a 5*, we struggled with the 110v but it wasn’t a huge deal. I think for £200 a night it’s quite expensive for what it is, day trip for sure. A final note is to be aware that hotels in Cuba don’t like local Cubans coming to visit after hours, our friends were able to use the bar after a number of questions..

Fantastic building; unfortunately hotel quality not on par.

This place is all about its great history and grandeur. The garden bar/restaurant is wonderful and there's marvelous views over the boulevard and sea.

Unfortunately all the great things this hotel icon has going for it, are being zeroed out by extremely uninterested and/or plain rude staff. There were 2 blissful exceptions, 1 in reception and 1 at the terrace bar, but the other 8-10 staffs I had the "pleasure" of dealing with were so out of tune they absolutely shouldn't be working in any hotel. Attitude was completely careless or just simply rude.. Unbelievable. Breakfast... I read the cheering reviews here but I keep wondering whether we had the same breakfast. Yes there were a lot of choices but almost everything was equally disgusting and inedible. Bread.. coffee... just disgusting. The idea they asked 24 USD for the lunch buffet is absolutely insane. Must be said the pizza I had for lunch in their small cafeteria in the basement was very tasteful. Unfortunately it led to serious diarrhea afterwards. All in all, their pricing is not justified. For that, Hotel Nacional needs to seriously step up their service levels and hospitality.

Overpriced and inefficient.

Mojitos at the outside bar. Trenches and cannnons.

Unpleasant reception staff, the fact that people can smoke in their room but this isn’t mentioned anywhere when you book, even says No smoking in corridors, our room stank because of this as person next door smoked and coughed terribly. Eventually on last night got moved to the one no smoking floor. Invoice isn’t broken down as to what you took out of the fridge to drink, restaurant breakfast was same everyday. I could go on.

Breakfast was decent, nice enough selection. Coffee is worth mentioning, very nice. Staff around the pool and during breakfast were polite and attentive. Surprisingly the gym was probably one of the best I’ve seen in a hotel. Good size, good selection of dumbells and a fair amount of new machines. Cafe Laurent restaurant is a hidden gem, not a five minute walk away from the hotel. Well worth a visit. Make sure you book first though as it is busy, especially on the terrace which is the nicest area to sit.

First and foremost- This is not a 5 star hotel, it may have been at one time but it isn’t anymore. Nothing it offers makes it hit that mark. It is a four star at best. But at the same time perhaps the price reflects that as it’s cheaper than some of the other 5 star hotels in old Havana The room was dated and cramped. We had nowhere near enough space to open up one suitcase, let alone two! Reception staff had very poor attitudes, not once did I see them smile. When I had an issue with the room safe they were quite unhelpful and appeared uninterested, to the point of rudeness. Room was clean- Not to a great standard though. Bathroom was ok, however the desk had a layer of dust as did one of the bedside tables. Also under the bed had clearly not been cleaned for a considerable amount of time!

food was great and service outside in the seating of the garden, rooms were very clean and nice

the service at the tour agency and the service at the information desk , the women were straight up rude. at the tour desk i stood for 10 minutes waiting for the woman who was in charge of tours and another employee(man) to finish talking amongst each other in order for me just to ask how much a taxi costs to varadero. i interrupted them after 5 minutes and she turned around and told me rudely to wait because they are discussing prices! I think my 10 second question wouldnt hurt and I think that meetings should be held somewhere other then in front of me as a hotel guest. other than that at check out we were charged for 8 bottles of water a day we only had 2 and 2 cokes a day when we didnt have a single one , we wrote off the cokes , but do be careful with minibar.

Old world charm in a fantastic location to explore Havana

The guided tour of the hotel by Estella was very informative. The hotel is beautiful, if the rooms are ever so slightly dated, but they are very grand. Dinner in the main restaurant and cocktails on the patio were both fantastic experiences.

Carpets should be removed from our room and floors exposed like in most of the other parts of the property, which has beautiful original stone floors.

All in all it was a great stay!

After traveling in many towns and villages in Cuba, and staying in Casas with local people for 8 days (which was great), we were ready to experience some luxury stay in the 5 star hotel. Great big room and a bathroom, very clean, beds are comfortable. Ask for a room with an ocean view at checkin, they will accommodate you most of the time.

The customer service at the local cafeteria was not really 5 stars...
